This reading copy preserves the recovered text and illustrations of Letter for My Wife. It is not the original website and does not claim to represent its author. The layout has been rebuilt for independent hosting.
Two editions, kept intact
The supplied 151-page PDF is dated 2017. Its SHA-256 checksum matches the PDF downloaded from the archived website exactly. The web articles carry 2024 publication or update dates and contain revisions. They are presented as a separate edition.
- The PDF has four parts; the website separates “Discontinued Practices” into its own part, giving five.
- Chapter 8 is titled “Blacks and the Church” in the PDF and “Race and the Church” on the website.
- The Rosetta Stone moves from chapter 20 in the PDF to chapter 17 on the web. The three Facsimile chapters consequently move from 17–19 to 18–20.
- The opening web page is addressed “To my wife and children,” while the PDF preface begins “My Love,”. The web edition also includes an About article and a photograph and caption about the author’s temple marriage.
What was recovered
The introduction, five parts, conclusion and About article are all present. All 108 article image placements have local files; 114 unique image files were recovered including homepage artwork and thumbnails. The site does not require Wix, analytics, remote fonts or remote images to read.
Article text was checked against the archived HTML after normalizing whitespace and invisible zero-width spaces. Emphasis, citations and original image captions are retained. Two original chapter links have been repaired: “Anachronisms” pointed to a missing target, and “DNA” pointed to the section contents rather than the chapter. The homepage combines split “Expert Views” links into a single label.
Archive dates
The starting point was the January 14, 2026 homepage. Wayback returned the closest available captures for other pages, spanning December 2025 to March 2026. This is a reconstruction from multiple captures, not a claim that every page is from one moment.
What remains separate or uncertain
- Images were recovered from the original Wix CDN URLs found in the archived HTML. Their exact equality to the historical image bytes has not been established; each downloaded file has its own checksum in the preservation package.
- External citation links were reviewed occurrence by occurrence against the recovered web edition and, where available, the 2017 PDF. Supported destinations and accidental link boundaries were repaired without changing article wording. Some original citations remain unresolved, including the Issuu development report and an Encyclopedia of Mormonism link; their original addresses and the reasons for leaving them are recorded in the source package. A working current page is not assumed to have identical historical wording.
- The audiobook links are retained as external references. Audio and linked third-party documents have not been mirrored.
- The original contact page is saved in the source package; its form is not activated. Donation controls have not been recreated. This mirror cannot receive messages on behalf of the original author.
- A probe of the older “the-letter” URL redirected to unrelated domains in a later archive capture. It was excluded from the reading copy. The cause of the original domain’s change is unverified.
- This is a content restoration, not a pixel-perfect recreation of Wix. Original copyright attribution is retained; no permission or license from the author is implied.
Source package
The accompanying preservation package holds original HTML downloads, the unchanged PDF, extracted text, chapter comparisons, source URLs, capture dates, checksums and the scripts used to rebuild this copy. Only the site folder is needed for hosting.
